Dentist created problem?
I went in for a normal check-up and cleaning. The dentist looked at my teeth and complimented me on my good hygiene. He even said that he saw no tartar and I had nice, pink gums. He then checked my "pockets" and only read three numbers to the assistant. One was a "5". He then said I would need scaling and planing, and it would cost $2000, and that he refused to do a normal cleaning because all of a sudden I had periodontal disease! The next day my gums all had bloody pin points and now are very swollen and red. I was fine before the exam, and 6 months ago had a checkup elsewhere with all "2" pockets. Am I being scammed? Did I pick up an infection from his exam?

Dentist created problem?
sounds like it being scammed i mean. if you have your teeth cleaned every six months and you have good oral hygiene like this dentist said then i don't see how he comes up with the idea that your need srp (scaling and root planning). i would ditch this dental office and see another, pronto. this way you can compare the exams in this short of a time.
i don't think you picked up an infection from this exam but again see another dentist soon. have you checked if your insurance covers this procedure and how much it pays? that could be another indication that they are aware of this and want to charge your insurance. as a dental hygienist i have yet to see any of my regular patients who come in every six months come in and need srp all of the sudden. so heads up, be aware and see another dentist. be well, PEACE |
