Need Medical School advice?
Ok, I graduated from penn state in spring of 07 and am getting my masters in health edu at penn state as well. my gpa is above 3.0 and my mcat scores are above avg. and i have lots of volunteer and extracurricular activities. I tried applying for med school last fall but was unsuccessful and i am trying to do it again this year...but i am afraid that i wont get in again. I am highly considering accredited European schools so this way i can save time rather than having to wait any further. I dont want ot be 27 when i get in to med school. The schools in Europe where im applying are in English and they are recognized by the WHO and u need to take the USMLE tests to come back to the US. Do you think its a good decision for me to go to Europe? I mean i dont care cuz European schools are about the same as US as far as standards. Considering my situation would it be a wise choice? PLease any advice would be great and personal experience would be better! THanks<br />

Need Medical School advice?
Well the thing is that Medical school is going to be very, very competitive and there is only a selected few of undergrads that will be selected. So just simply as the admissions office as to what am I missing to get into medical school and if you are trying for and Ivy League Medical School, you may want to reconsider.

I would try osteopathic schools in the US before you go overseas. You apply for them at a different site from the allopathic schools and you will end up applying for the same residencies.

I think it's a viable option, but you may encounter as much competition. I do have to wonder why you would pursue a Master's versus retaking courses to bring your GPA up. And if your MCAT is less than 30, you ought to take that again, too.
Here's something else for you to consider: Puerto Rico has 3 medical schools that are LCME accredited, with programs taught in English. PR is a US commonwealth, so you wouldn't be a foreign graduate. The tuition is ridiculously low and you don't need a passport or visa. |
