i am a rising sophomore, and I would like to take the MCAT the summer after my sophomore year. I took most prerequisites in my freshman year. I don't know how hard the verbal section is. Is it too hard for a sophomore? Or is the difficulty level about the same as the verbal section of the SAT?

The verbal section is really a test of your ability to take standardized tests. If you've done well on standardized exams before, then you'll probably do well on the verbal. It certainly isn't anything that an extra year of college would help you with, so I think if you will have finished the pre-reqs and feel comfortable with your science ability, you should go for it.

Do make sure to take a few practice exams first to get the feel of it. The AAMC makes one available for free online, but it's a very old one and things have changed since then. They allow you to purchase others online, or you can go through a test prep company like Princeton Review or Kaplan and get your practice in that way.
