How much time per week (in hours) should I spend...
...studying for the Apr '06 MCAT? I have been out of school for 5 years. I did all my med school requirements then except for Organic Chemistry. I'm taking Orgo II in the spring. I just finished Orgo I with A's in lab and lecture. I have really good marks in Physics, Gen Chem, and Bio too. I just took them the 5 years ago.
I'm trying to figure out roughly how much time per week I should schedule over 4 months to review Physics in depth, and get the others up to snuff for MCAT. Physics is my weakest subject. Bio is probably my strongest, along with Orgo, since I'm studying Orgo now. J. If you took the MCAT and got over 14 or any section, how did you prepare? |

Well I think it is difficult to say how much time each week you should study, as it really depends a lot on how you study, what you already know, etc.
The most difficult part of studying for standardized tests is keeping your attention focused on what you are studying. This is what makes buying the study books and reading through them or just studying your science books such a difficult task. I think that the best strategy for preparing for the MCAT (and comparable standardized tests) is to get as many practice tests as possible. Take a practice test, then score it, then look up every answer that you got wrong. Repeat a practice test each week. I have seen some recommendations that you study for 12 weeks prior to the test. That way you would use 12 practice tests. You can obtain practice tests by buying MCAT preparations books at places like Barnes and Noble, from the MCAT people, and from you local and college libraries. |
