Keep a thick hand lotion with you like The Body Shop's Almond Hand Cream or Hemp Butter. Bath and Body Works also has a shea butter hand cream that I use.
At night you can use a mixure of baby oil and sugar to give your hands a nice exfoliating treatment. Once you rinse that off, you can use rub a thick cream on them and wear gloves at night. |

I found that nothing works as well as regular manicures and pedicures and maximum moisterization. Keep your hands and feet moisterized at all times (especially at night). Really oily lotions are great for use while you sleep.

First of all, it is really important to use luke warm water and NOT hot water because the hot water washes away the natural oils and drys out your hands (and body).
If you are worried about gersm, think of it this way. There is no temperature of water you can wash with that will be hot enough to kill bacteria and germs. The FRICTION of scrubbing with soap (and it DOESN'T have to be antibacterial) and running water washes the germs away. Think about it... medical personnel use AUTOCLAVES to scorch the metal equipment to kill the germs. Your human flesh can't handle even boiling water which is a whole lot cooler than autoclaving. Use lotion or oils directly AFTER the bath/shower/washing for the best absorption into the skin. At night, use a thick ointment or similar cream and wear the cloth gloves to keep your hands from rubbing it all over your sheets and blankets and to keep it in contact with your hands longer. As an RN I wash my hands hundreds of times a day.. I have to take care of my hands or they become very dry and get cracks in the skin. |

Creative Nail Design has a great lotion, my fave in Cran Beary, it has aloe, jojhoba oil(sp), alpha hydroxies, cocoa butter, and smells great. It keeps your skin well hydrated. For nails, in winter I recommend Solar oil, every day. Not a bad idea to use every day anyway, but a must in winter when the dry air allows paper, cardboard etc to draw the moisture from your skin.
