Please "Add details" to your question by clicking on the "+" icon right below the question. Are you a dentist? What number file? What tooth? Where is the fragment located in the canal? Was the tooth vital or non-vital? WIth that information, I will give an opinion.

Are you an endodontist? If so, then this is your problem. What did your professors say in school about this?
If you are not an endodontist, then have you sought advice from your lawyer? |

The deeper the file is within the canal, then the more difficult to remove. A stainless steel file (a hand-file) will be easier to remove than a nickel-titanium (NiTi - usually used with a handpiece).
Sometimes the file can be worked around using smaller files, and can thus be left in place. Often a specialist in root canals (endodontist) may be asked to help out in difficult cases. And of course you can leave it in place and cross your fingers - it might be less risk to leave a clean file in place rather than potentially making matters worse when trying to remove a difficult file and perforating the side of the root.. |

Yes, there are numerous ways. One involves the use of an ultrasonic scaler to help loosen the broken segment. More often, the broken piece is lodged so far down the canal as to make retrieval next to impossible
