Ayurvedic medicine is an ancient system of health care that is native to the Indian subcontinent. It is presently in daily use by millions of people in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and indirectly through it being the major influence on Unani, Chinese and Tibetan Medicine, in China, Tibet, and Pakistan too. The word "Ayurveda" is a tatpurusha compound of the word ?yus meaning "life" or "life principle", and the word veda, which refers to a system of "knowledge". Thus "Ayurveda" roughly translates as the "knowledge of life".

AYUR: To give long, healthy, wealthy and wise life to the self

VEDA: learning's and teachings of the Vedas; as derived by meditating on the knowledge of the Vedas; by the practitioner of such meditating techniques only, which are capable of giving the hidden knowledge of the Vedas to the self for the purpose of ayur.

AYURVEDA: The knowledge of those sciences and practices of Vedas, by which one can know, use, and practice the knowledge of Vedas for giving a healthy, wealthy, and wise life to the self; and by which one can learn and apply such knowledge of Ayurveda as gained by the self; for the same purpose; and practice it either as medicine, knowledge, or profession of self...
