What is your experience with Ayurveda? Is it wise to
try herbal medicines when taking other medicines? There are claims that diseases such as AIDS, Cancer, Jaundice, Typhoid etc. can be cured by Ayurveda.
Thanks for you answers. Appreciated. If the Ayurveda practised here is watered down, then where is the best place for Ayurveda. |

I'm suspicious of most of the really dramatic claims but Ayurveda has a lot to offer. Unfortunately, most Ayurveda practiced here is a watered-down version of the real thing.
Definately don't take ANY herbal supplements without running it by your doctor. Some, like St. Johns's wort, for example, are notorious for reacting with prescription drugs. And remember, anything strong enough to create change in your body is also strong enough to harm you. |

Aruyeda according to the 1999 christian handbook of alternative medicine tend to go into 2 schools of thought 1 of which could be beneficial the other would not be.
1. Aruvedic Medicine to some is basically new age energy medicine pending your personal convictions this could conflict with your religious preference such as mentions of chanelling energy or taking substances based on your personal "energy" or "chi" 2. Aruvedic medicines has been helpfull in finding some actually beneficial herbs and alternative medicines however like the prior two answers these tend to be unregulated in real dosages so it becomes a random chance thing even if the substance works. Especially when combined with regular pharmaceuticals |

the most common herb in ayurveda medicine is turmeric, it should not be used if you have obstructed biliary ducts or with gallstones and absolutely not during pregnancy. there are herbal meds that can cure and treat most all illnesses but you should always check them out troughly before you use any meds, be it rx or herbal. any claims that they can cure any thing that ails you is preposterous. but they can help
