There are four parts in the OET exam same as that of IELTS
- Listening
- Writing
- Reading
- Talking
1. LISTENING
IN THIS ONE ONLY NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND AUSTRALIAN LANGUAGE AND NOTHING ELSE.
In it one will hear a conversation between a doctor and patient or between two doctors.
For Eg;
Patient :- Doc, I am having fever.
Doc :- Since when have you been suffering from fever?
Patient :- 7 days
Doc :- Any other symptoms?
Patient :- Accompanied by chills
Then one will have to answer their question, which will be asked after
allowing to hear the conversation only once.
Question :- Since when is the patient feeling ill?
(One will be given few seconds to give the answer)
Ans:- Should be "7 days" AND not "PATIENT IS FEELING WELL SINCE 7 DAYS" What does this mean? It means the
answer should be brief!
2. WRITING
IN THIS THEY SEE YOUR WRITING SKILLS LIKE GRAMMER, SENTENCE CONSTRUCTION,COMMUNICATION SKILLS ETC
Writing a referral letter to a doctor referring a patient.
It might be like this : You have to fix a bridge to a patient but you hear a history of malignancy and now you are seeing white patches so you have to send it to that physician for check up.
3. READING
THEY CHECK YOU READING SKILLS AND YOUR UNDERSTANDING IN IT
In this a paragraph based on medical grounds is given. One has to read it and answer simple questions in it. But some may be tricky so one shouldn't take these lightly!
4. SPEAKING
IN THIS THEY CHECK THE FLUENCY AND THE COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
A non medico person will sit in front of the candidate holding a page. In the page is written some disease and another page will be given to you and in it one will be told to go for a particular treatment, the fees would be mentioned in it. The candidate has to CONVERSE for 10 –15 min.
For Eg;

Doc :- -now (in paper it is said to convince the patient for RCT)u have to convince the patient for that RCT.
