Can a wisdom tooth issue cause strep throat?
I have a lower left wisdom tooth that started bothering me in June. It felt really irritated (no swollen or anything) and it went away after a few days. Same thing happened again in July and again in August. I went to the dentist and she didn't prescribe me any antibiotics and said that it wasn't infected, just inflamed. She did say that having an open wound like that (since the tooth is coming through, there is gum tissue around it) is like any open wound: It can get infected if you leave it unattended to.I recently went on a trip to Pittsburgh and spent a few days there. I noticed Sunday when I got back that I felt ill. Had a cold and sore throat, cough, etc. All of the usual cold symptoms. Yesterday, the symptoms made me feel real bad. I didn't have a fever or anything, but I definitely felt sick.Went to the doctor's today and he thinks it is strep throat. I asked him if the wisdom tooth could have caused it and he didn't seem to think so. He pushed down on my teeth in that area and asked if there was any pain. There wasn't. So he didn't think there was a link. But could my wisdom tooth woes have caused my strep throat? I am on antibiotics now (just picked up the prescription) and don't want this to get worse. I just want to know if the two are linked.

Can a wisdom tooth issue cause strep throat?
If the gum surrounding the wisdom tooth was infected, it could have spread. But, if there was no pain, inflammation, or other signs of infection, then it probably wasn't the cause. If it was infected, the antibiotics will clean it up and it won't get worse.
